9.00am to 3.00pm
Gates open for students at 8:15am and Teacher supervision commences at 8.20am. Children are not permitted to enter the school grounds prior to this time unless attending Afcare or extra-curricular activities. We request that children are collected from school by 3.15pm.
The YMCA’s Afcare programme provides before-school and after-school care for children. For more information, please contact www.ymcahb.org.nz 027 204 8909.
Wet lunch hours
We do not have short lunch hours if the weather is wet. School always finishes at 3.00pm.
Both the Puketapu Road and the Church Road crossings are supervised by parents, road patrol wardens and teachers from 8.20 – 8.45am and from 3.00 – 3.15pm.
Lunches can be ordered on-line through www.lunchonline.co.nz. Wednesday’s are Sushi and Friday’s Pita Pit.
Family contact information
A contact telephone number for each child’s parent or caregiver is essential in case of the event of an emergency or illness. This is particularly important where parents/caregivers are working and may not be at home. Please inform the school office when there is a change of contact numbers.
Illness / accident at school
In the event of a child taking ill or having an accident at school:
1. Every endeavour is made to contact and notify parents/caregivers;
2. If parents/caregivers are not available, the school will transport children to a local doctor, dentist or to the Hawke’s Bay Regional Hospital (Hastings).
We have a ‘sun safe’ policy where all children and staff are required to wear a school sun hat to provide protection from the sun between Labour Weekend and Easter. These hats are available to purchase through the school office.
We operate a successful behaviour management’ programme at Taradale Primary School which focuses on ‘making the right choice’. We use the ‘stop, think, do’ approach. Positive aspects of the children’s behaviour both in and outside the classroom are recognised and acknowledged by teachers and staff.
Travelling to and from school
All children are encouraged to come directly to school in the morning and to return directly home in the afternoon. If possible, we would appreciate it if they did this with other groups of children when either walking or biking.
Collecting children from school
Many parents/caregivers bring their children to school by car and also collect them by car at the end of the school day. If you are planning to do this, we ask that you either park in Church Road or in the car parking area in Ngarimu Crescent. Please do not the staff car park off Church Road. The loading zone on Church Road is a 2-minute pick-up/drop-off zone where we request that you stay with your car.
In the interests of safety and modelling good behaviour for students, please use the pedestrian crossing outside the school hall when crossing Church Road.
